Marionetoj

Temas pri kolekto de poemoj verkitaj de unu el la korifeoj de la Esperanto-movado en Malto, eble pli bone konata kiel la tradukinto kaj eldoninto de la Antologio de maltaj poetoj.

This is a collection of poems written by one of the best-known participants in the Esperanto movement in Malta, perhaps better known as the translator and publisher of the Anthology of Maltese Poets.

Ne multon mi volas diri pri la poemoj, kiuj parte ilustras personajn spertojn, parte historiajn personojn, parte ĝeneralan saĝecon. Ili troviĝas en du rubrikoj "Rapsodie", kie ni trovas pli ĝeneralajn poemojn, kaj "Akrostike", kie Mallia provas verki poemojn, en kiuj la komenclitero de ĉiu verso kune literumas la temon de la poemo. Ekzemple:

I don't want to say a lot about the poems, which in part illustrate personal experiences, in part historical individuals, in part general wisdom. They come in two categories "Rhapsody", where we find more general poems, and "Acrostics", where Mallie tries to write poems in which the initial letter of each line work together to spell the poem's subject. For example:

Zigzagas la nacioj ĉe l' amsopir-koŝmar' Afekta solvstrebante lime de lingvobar'. Majstro lumanta l' vojon al progresive ben' Evangelio nova por mondo sen katen'. Nobla donacdonanto per lia Esperant', Hontinde la homaro per nea arogant' Opozicie vundas la ĝojon de l' kompren'. Fendu la Lingvo l' mensojn helpante en liber'.

Laŭ mi, tiu formo estas certe tro limiga (ankaŭ Albert GOODHEIR ŝatis ludi je ĝi), se ne pro la trudata lingvaĵo, almenaŭ pro la elekto de temoj. Tio estas aparte vera por homo kiel Mallia, kiu, almenaŭ laŭ mia persona opinio, bonege regas la lingvon (se mi ne miskalkulis, li sukcesis verki ĉiun poemon sen unusola uzo de la banala verbo esti -- krom en la kunmetaĵo ĉeesti) sed ne egale majstras la poezikrean arton.

In my humble opinion, this form is certainly too limiting (Albert Goodheir liked to play with it, too), if not because of the language that is forced on the author, then because of the choice of topics. This is especially true for an individual such as Mallia who, at least in my personal opinion, has an excellent command of the language (if I have not miscounted, he has succeeded in writing every poem without one single use of the boring verb esti = to be -- except in the conjoined form ĉeesti) but does not have an equal command of the art of creating poetry.

Ankaŭ legindas interesa, kaj ne ĉiam adora, unupaĝa enkonduko de Goncalo NEVES. Neves iom dubas pri la kvalito de tiuj poemoj, kiuj rilatas specife al Esperanto (ili troviĝas sporade en ambaŭ rubrikoj), sed mi trovis tiujn nek aparte subbonaj nek aparte bonaj.

Also worth reading is an interesting, and not always worshipful, one-page introduction by Goncalo Neves. Neves has some doubts about the quality of those poems that specifically relate to Esperanto (you find them sporadically in both categories), but I found them neither especially inferior nor especially good.
